Giving Better Globe trees as gift by Einar Stenshaug
I have worked with Better Globe since the beginning, and since last year I do it full time. Some time ago I thought of all the young people I know. In the few years to come, most of them are going to confirm or graduate from school.
I then decided to buy trees for their birthdays, at Christmas, and at other appropriate times. For a couple of them, I do it regularly and that means when the day comes they will have a significant number of trees. One boy who is 9 years old today will almost certainly confirm about 5-6 years. From now on, he will receive two trees on his birthday and two trees on Christmas from me. When he confirms he will have 24 trees. He will at that time already have received payment of the expected return from those trees. I think it is a nice confirmation present from his uncle.
Nowadays, I only give trees or donation packages to friends as birthday gifts and to my staff at Christmas. The gifts may consist of one single tree or more trees, but what is certain, is that the tree is a much better option than a box of chocolate or a bottle of wine that they get from other people. It almost always tend to lead to that they buy more trees. A gift that becomes more and more the more you give!
This is what it looks like for Einar each month:
| Year 0: | Einar has a total cost of 4 x 15 euros | € -60.00 |
| Year 1 – 4: | The four trees, that Einar owns, are planted: | € 0.00 |
| Year 5 – 19: | 15% x 4 trees that cost 15.00 euros for 15 years (4 x 15 years x 15 € x 15%). It gives an annual yield of 9 euros per year for 15 years. The total: | € +135.00 |
| Year 20: | The four trees are harvested and sold. Einar now has an expected return of 10 times the purchase price of 15 euro per tree | € +600.00 |
| Total expected return over 20 years: | € 675.00 | |
This means that the trees Einar buy, for a total of 60.00 euros, has a expected return of more than 735 euros over time.
