News from Kenya

Casuarina treesIn Kiambere, we began growing test areas of Green grams, a type of vegetable planted between mukau trees to contribute short-term to the operation. In addition there is quarterly maintenance of all planted trees to ensure nothing unexpected happens to them.

In Nyongoro, we are working on planting a fast-growing tree called casuarina. The tree will serve as protection from the wind, which will prevent mukau trees from being damaged. In addition, a lot of activities are being conducted in the nursery, including grafting mango trees.

Mike Njeru, Managing Trustee of KenGen Foundation, represents the largest power company in Kenya. Njeru was able to visit Better Globe Forestry in May. Because KenGen is supportive of Better Globe's work, we are working on a collaboration with them. This includes donating trees to schools in Nyongoro. Five schools have been chosen and Better Globe Forestry has commenced planting.

In Sosoma we have mainly focused on the collaboration with its natives. Since the microfinance bank is well underway with work, more families are participating in the microfinancing program.

Jean-Paul, Managing Director of Better Globe Forestry, now has a unique addition to his living area. This cupboard was created by a carpenter, who utilized our resources to craft the first piece of mukau furniture. Our next goal is to craft Parquet flooring using timber from the mukau tree. We have performed different tests on the wood years before we intend to start production and sales; this way, we will be prepared when cutting large amounts of mukau trees is required.

USA Meeting

As part of our international marketing, Julie Solberg (CEO Child Africa), and Rino Solberg (CEO Better Globe) attended MEGA Partnering in Los Angeles in June.

We acquired several significant contacts during the convention, all of whom will be followed up short- and long-term. Every contact received a dedicated copy of Rino's latest book, Social Entrepreneurship – The Better Globe Way, along with news regarding Better Globe and Child Africa. A few highlights were meetings with Arnold Schwarzenegger and fashion icon Donna Karan.

J. T. Foxx, founder and organizer of the MEGA Partnering, agreed to be Rino's coach the next year. He expressed interest in Better Globe's visions, and further cooperation can contribute to the start of a worldwide branding of Better Globe.

In the autumn we will publish more Better Globe videos and websites, all of which will help to promote the company. We have a lot to look forward to!

Make it a great day!
